Group Detail: European Lenders (EURO_BANKS)
researchLAB Help: GroupsGrouping lies at the heart of researchLAB. Stocks move heavily according to their broader industry groups and sectors, as most traders know. Good news in one is usually good news for others, and the reverse is usually true as well.
researchLAB recognizes these groups according to real sentiment and investor perceptions. There are groups such as "iPhone Suppliers," and "credit-rating firms," both of which move closely together and track developments in key areas. Our categories can be highly detailed, such as "Light-emitting diodes," "Satellite media," "Casinos," "Education Stocks" and even "Snowmobiles." Others are as broad such as "Semiconductors" and "Gold miners." And, when new themes emerge in the news, like "Shale gas" or "Cloud computing," we create groups accordingly. This offers a big advantage to traditional static indexing.
Anyone who's tried to research companies on their own knows how important it is to understand these relationships, and has probably spent considerable hours reading news stories and web sites in search of them. researchLAB does that work for you, and provides information in a context that would otherwise take considerable time to discover.
Two pages contain most of the information on groups:
- The Groups page, found in the researchLAB sub-tab.
- The Group Detail page displayed when you click on a group.
Also noteworthy is the search groups box that appears throughout the site. Simply begin typing and it will automatically display potential matches.
The Groups page shows you all of the groups and lets you sort their performance over different time periods by clicking on the various column heads. By clicking on the column head a second time, it will toggle between ascending and descending order.
Clicking on a group will bring you to the Group Detail page, which displays key information about member companies. The top line shows basic Price Performance information.
The next line shows News Sentiment and illustrates whether news is getting better or worse. The 1-Week and 1-month sentiments can range from -1 for completely bearish to 1 for completely bullish. Shift is the difference between the two, and gives a sense of direction. A negative number means that news is shifting toward the negative, and a positive number indicates a shift to the positive.
Headlines are next, showing news events for companies in the group. Bullish stories are colored green bearish stories are red and neutral stories are black. Clicking on a headline will show you further details. (See the discussion of News Events for more.)
Trader's Network Sentiments is the next item. This shows what other users of researchLAB think of member companies, or the group itself.
The last item is Member Stocks, a price grid that lists companies in the group. Like the Groups page, they can be ranked by the different columns. This allows you to easily detect winners and losers over different time periods.
