VIX: SEE CHART GET CHAIN FIND STRATEGIES
The CBOE Volatility Index finished the day just slightly higher after running near 21 earlier in the session.

The VIX was up just 0.11, or 0.58 percent, to close at 19.05. It had climbed to 20.91 in the morning, dropped below 18 as it fell throughout the day, and then bounced after 4 p.m. ET.

The S&P 500 made a corresponding trip down to a low just below 1348 before climbing through the afternoon and finishing at 1363.72, down just 5.86 points on the day. The two indexes typically move inversely.

The May and June VIX futures both gained slightly to close at 19.55 and 21 respectively. The VIX options traded 461,000 contracts, 291,000 of which were calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) topped 219,000 options, also with more calls than puts.
