Strong Numbers For Touch Screen Maker

Synaptics earned $0.79 a share in its third quarter on revenue of $163.2 million. Analysts had only expected $0.57 and $145.8 million. Guidance was also strong and the company announced it had won key supply agreements with Samsung. SYNA rallies 15 percent before the bell on my tradeMONSTER platform.

Baidu Earnings, Revenue Miss Consensus

Baidu reported first-quarter profit of just $0.95 a share, missing the $1.03 consensus estimate. Revenue of $961 million also lagged the $969 million forecast by the Street. BIDU is lower by 8 percent in the premarket.

Coinstar Profit Beats, Guidance Impresses

Coinstar earned $0.93 a share, well above the $0.86 expected by analysts. Revenue missed, but management raised full-year guidance. The company also announced it would change its name to Outerwall as DVD rentals increasingly dominate its business. CSTR rose 9 percent in early trading.

Timing the Trade

Both break outs and a break downs need to have a couple things happen before it is considered a confirmed break out or break down by technical definition!  The only problem is that in today's market where things move much more quicker than they did just a few years ago, two days could wind up being the majority of the expected movement, if not the whole movement.
