Today might well mark a new record in option volume as more than 11 million options have already traded, with optionMONSTER's data systems showing very bullish action in the indexes and ETFs.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 1.9 million options traded so far, with 1.1 million are calls. The SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has 513,000 contracts changing hands, 469,000 of which are calls. The S&P 500 Index (SPX) options top 430,000, with 245,000 outpacing puts. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has seen 396,000 options turn over, with 368,000 calls.

Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) contracts at 368,000. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 298,000 options changing hands. In both ETFs, calls slightly outpace puts.

The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) has 284,000 contracts changing hands, as calls make up 153,000 of that volume. The PowerShares U.S. Dollar Index Bullish Fund (UUP) has 283,000 options turning over, 272,000 of which are calls.

The Russell 2000 Index (RUT) options have traded more than 191,000 times, with calls outpacing puts by almost 3 to 1. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 133,000, with 85,000 calls. And the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) has 123,000 options, evenly split between calls and puts.
