Index, ETF option volumes near midday

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 518,000 contracts traded, with 362,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (SPX) options with 169,000, with puts slightly outpacing calls. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), which is derived from those SPX options, has 167,000 of its own contracts changing hands, with 89,000 puts.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has seen 154,000 options turn over, 128,000 of which are puts. Following are the iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) options at 129,000, though the action in that fund is dominated by 91,000 calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options have traded 97,000 times, with 57,000 puts. Just behind are the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) options at 95,000, with 50,000 puts.
