Total option volume is relatively light with fewer than 5 million contracts, while calls are are very active in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER's systems.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has seen 741,000 contracts trade, with 459,000 puts. Next up are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 183,000, 105,000 of which are puts.

Not far behind are the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options, which have changed hands 165,000 times with 100,000 calls outpacing puts. In a rare occurrence, the same is true in the S&P 500 Index (SPX) options as 146,000 options trade with 80,000 calls.

The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) has 75,000 options moving, dominated by 65,000 calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 45,000 contracts turning over, 26,000 of which are puts. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) has 44,000 options traded, led by 33,000 calls.
