The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has seen 1.3 million contracts trade, with 775,000 puts. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) is next up with volume of 215,000 that is dominated by 176,000 puts, which is unusual.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) just breaks above 200,000 contracts, with calls outpacing puts by more than 2 to 1. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 176,000 options changing hands, including 109,000 puts. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) with 174,000, 120,000 of which are puts.
The S&P 500 Index (SPX) has 160,000 contracts trading, with 96,000 puts. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) is seeing 156,000 contracts turn over, with 85,000 puts. And the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 123,000 options traded as calls outnumber puts by more than 2 to 1.
