SPY: SEE CHART GET CHAIN FIND STRATEGIES
Overall option volume has picked up with 5.5 million contracts changing hands as hedging again takes center stage in the index and ETF activity, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.

Topping the action as usual is the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY), which has seen 868,000 options trade, including 523,000 puts. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) has 232,000 options turning over, led by 198,000 calls.

The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 214,000 contracts changing hands, followed closely by  207,000 S&P 500 Index (SPX) options. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options total  160,000. All three have a put/call ratio of 2 to 1.

The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 98,000 options traded, including 65,000 calls. The iShares Barclays 20+ Year Treasury Fund (TLT) has 83,000, with more calls than puts.

The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) sees 60,000 contracts trading, also with more calls than puts. Just behind is the SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) with 57,000 contracts, 34,000 of them puts.
