Just over 908,000 SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) options have changed hands, with calls slightly outpacing puts--which is highly unusual. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) has 347,000 contracts, 190,000 of which are calls. The S&P 500 Index (SPX) options are next with 190,000, also with calls taking the lead and also highly unusual.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 142,000 contracts moving. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 140,000. Both have a put/call ratio of slightly less than 2 to 1.
The SPDR Gold Shares Trust (GLD) has seen 72,000 options turning over, with 46,000 calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 57,000 options traded as calls outnumber puts by 2 to 1. The SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has 53,000 options changing hands, dominated by 41,000 puts.
