SPY: SEE CHART GET CHAIN FIND STRATEGIES
Total option volume is very strong today as 8.5 million contracts have already traded, with puts again topping the action in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has seen 1.5 million options trade so far, more than 1 million of them puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) is next up with 523,000 contracts, 426,000 of which are puts. The S&P 500 Index (SPX) options have turned over 365,000 times, with a put/call ratio of almost 3 to 1.

The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 295,000 contracts changing hands, with 178,000 puts. Not far behind are the SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) options at 257,000 as puts outpace calls by 5 to 1. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) has 206,000 options traded, with slightly more calls than puts.

The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) is seeing 116,000 options trade, 75,000 of which are calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 80,000 contracts turning over. And the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Fund (VXX) has 74,000 options traded, 43,000 of them calls.
